Wide Blade and Dense Growing Sod Grass
St. Augustine grass is a luxurious wide blade or medium blade grass, with deep green color, and carpet like growth and texture. St. Augustine grass sod is great for both home and commercial properties, and is often used on golf courses and sports fields.
- Performs better in shade than other warm season turfgrasses
- Tolerates moderate foot traffic and has very good wear recovery
- Dense carpet like growth that outcompetes most weeds
- Tolerates heat and humidity, ideal for Florida sub-tropical weather
- Most popular grass across the southern US for years
Best ForYards with mixed sun and shade, family lawns, and Florida properties under live oak canopies.
What St. Augustine Looks Like Once It Roots
The wide blade fills in fast. Two to three weeks after install, the runners knit and you get a thick carpet that crowds out most weeds without a heavy chemical program.
Spring and fall installs root the fastest. Summer installs work too if you water twice a day for the first two weeks.
St. Augustine handles full sun, mixed sun, and moderate shade. It is the most versatile grass we carry for Florida yards.
Types of St. Augustine Grass Sod
Palmetto St. Augustine
A semi-dwarf variety with excellent shade tolerance. Stays greener through mild winters. Popular for residential lawns across Florida.
Classic St. Augustine Grass
The traditional wide blade variety. Dense and aggressive. Handles shade and moderate traffic. A reliable standard for yards across Florida.
Seville St. Augustine
A finer textured variety. Good shade tolerance. Commonly used on golf courses and sports fields where a tighter, denser surface is needed.
Floratam St. Augustine
The most widely planted St. Augustine variety in Florida. Wide coarse blade, aggressive grower, performs best in full sun. The standard for sunny Florida yards since the 1970s.
Raleigh St. Augustine
More cold tolerant than other St. Augustine cultivars. Holds color longer through North Florida winters. Medium-coarse blade, good fit for transitional zones.
CitraBlue St. Augustine
A newer release with blue green color and a denser canopy. More shade tolerance and slower vertical growth than Floratam, so you mow less often.
ProVista St. Augustine
Bred to grow compact and tolerate certain herbicides. Slow vertical growth means fewer mowings per season. Common on premium residential and HOA installs where weed control without lawn damage matters.
Cobalt® Hybrid St. Augustine
A new hybrid bred by Texas A&M AgriLife. Uses 30 to 50 percent less water than traditional varieties. Dark green color, wide blade, good shade and disease tolerance, and stronger herbicide tolerance than Classic. Winter hardy.
Bitter Blue St. Augustine
An older selection with a noticeably deeper blue green tint than Floratam. Wider blade, dense growth pattern. Common in established Florida lawns where homeowners want the traditional deep color.
Sapphire® St. Augustine
A blue green St. Augustine with a softer texture than Floratam. Good shade and salt tolerance. Spreads aggressively for fast establishment. Sold through Sod Solutions licensed growers.
